Welcome to the Louisiana and Mississippi affiliate of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (LaMsMATYC). I am Vickie Flanders, and I am a Professor of Mathematics at Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It is an honor to serve as president of LaMsMATYC for the 2021-2022 academic year.
I am in my 16th year at BRCC and teach Developmental Mathematics to Multidimensional Calculus. I thoroughly enjoy teaching mathematics and, it is very rewarding to witness those light bulb moments. I am also the Pre-Engineering Program Manager, and this duty gives me an opportunity to help students on a different level than in the classroom. I advise and help students stay on track in the program. I absolutely love helping students reach their career goals, and I love making a difference in people’s lives. This is why I am an educator!
I have many teaching strategies and best teaching practices. I did not come up with these all on my own. I have learned a great deal from my fellow colleagues and enjoy participating and presenting at conferences. I am proud to say that this organization provides a high-quality annual conference each year. Our next annual conference will be held in February 12, 2022 at the Rankin Campus of Hinds Community College in Pearl, Mississippi.

I look forward to serving as LaMsMATYC President this year, and I hope to see you at our annual conference! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at flandersv@mybrcc.edu.

Thanks,
Vickie Flanders
