Patrick Wilcher

2022-2023 LaMsMATYC President

​

Welcome to the Louisiana and Mississippi affiliate of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (LaMsMATYC). I’m Patrick Wilcher, and I teach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Mississippi. It is a great privilege to serve as president of LaMsMATYC for the 2022-2023 academic year.

This is my 16th year at MGCCC where I have taught Developmental Algebra, College Algebra, Statistics, Linear Algebra and the Calculus series. I also served as assistant men’s basketball coach at MGCCC for 10 seasons helping capture the 2009 NJCAA Region 23 Championship as well as MACJC State Championships in 2011 & 2012. Mathematics instruction is a great passion of mine as I always look to add new ideas in content delivery and instruction methods. I hope that LaMsMATYC can serve as a community to help instructors at the two-year college level to learn evolving, high quality methods to enhance their classrooms for student success. As two-year instructors, we serve an important role in bridging our students to a university degree or into the workforce. At this level, our impact is paramount to student’s reaching their goals and having future success.

At LaMsMATYC, we are committed to promote academic excellence and foster a fellowship among members. The best resource that we have is - learning from each other. The majority of strategies and best practices that I have learned throughout my education journey has been from colleagues I have worked with or met at conferences. We hope that you will join us in our quest to evolve mathematics education at the two-year level. Our next conference will be held at Baton Rouge Community College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
