Jenifer Auffenberg

2023-2024 LaMsMATYC President

Welcome to the Louisiana and Mississippi chapter of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (LaMsMATYC). My name is Jenifer Auffenberg, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Fletcher Technical Community College in Shriever, Louisiana. For the academic year 2023-2024, I will serve as the president of LaMsMATYC.

It is my 22nd year of teaching and 13th year teaching in the Louisiana Community Technical College System (LCTCS). Prior to joining the community colleges, I taught secondary mathematics from Algebra I through Precalculus.  In my role as an instructor at Delgado Community College, I taught developmental mathematics courses and served on numerous college-wide committees. As part of my duties at Fletcher Technical Community College, I teach Contemporary Mathematics to Statistics, dual enrollment high school math courses, serve as the Mathematics Department Head, and serve as President of the Faculty Senate.  
 

While teaching at the Community College level has been rewarding and enjoyable, I find the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be highly effective. By constructing their own learning experiences, students will not only retain information longer, but will also become more confident in their abilities. I enjoy working with both teenagers and adults. My goal is to continue to be a positive influence in their lives.
 

It is the mission of LaMsMATYC to promote leadership, academic excellence, and fellowship among math instructors in Louisiana and Mississippi to improve the quality of our students' experiences by providing them with the necessary tools to attain their dreams.  
 

Our goal is to evolve mathematics education in two-year colleges, and we hope that you will join us in this endeavor. The next conference will be held at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
